Kate Spade Purse (old but I would die for this one) // Toms Shoes
My older sister, Leslie, has joked about my style becoming much more laid back since I moved to Cali. She's right...it has. But keep in mind, I was living in Vegas before and going out to clubs/bars all the time (and wearing scarfs as shirts). I had an amazing closet full of high heels, sparkly tanks, and skimpy dresses. You know...Vegas attire. :)
However, living in Cali, and now specifically at the beach, there is nowhere to wear these kinds of things. In fact, I panicked when I went to visit my sis in December. For the first time ever, I had NO "Vegas clothes" to wear. Rewind 5 years, this phrase would have never been uttered. I used to be the person to go to when someone needed Vegas gear. *Sigh*
Now my closet is full of flip flops, wedge sandals, shorts and maxi dresses. One of the things I swore I would never wear was Toms Shoes. I hated them. They were flat, boring and just overall ugly.
And then I started to like them.
And then I actually bought a pair.
Every time I wear them I can just hear my sister laughing hysterically.
All I can say is at least they're sparkly, sis!
See...cute!
By the way, speaking of my sister, we missed her and her family by just one day while in Palm Desert. So bummed but what you can do when you have to get back to work/the real world. The worst part is I missed seeing these beautiful girlies.
Don't you think I should win an award for the cutest nieces ever? I think so... :)
Oh my gosh, that story is SO crazy about your scarf top! I think it's true that where you live can influence how you dress! I wore much more black when I lived in NYC!

I am still on the fence about Toms. I am just to short for flat shoes that are not flip flops, but those are ahhdorable
ReplyDeleteas for your little nieces, they are ahhhdorable little muffins!
I have very similar Toms (no sequins, just a metallic shine) and I love them. I laugh about how many pencil skirts I own now since entering the working world. When I was in my college clubbing days I had so many skimpy dresses...now those have been traded for cardigans.

This is such a cute post, Jill! I love the laid back style you've adopted. I can relate to the part about flat shoes though...there was a time when I had some sort of anxiety about flats but I have overcome it and now wear shoes I swore I'd never be caught dead in. Like Converse (at least they're Tiffany blue) and suede loafers.
ReplyDeleteI love the shoes are the kids are just too cute!

Sparkles and Shoes
I think you sparkly Toms are pretty. I had never really been into Toms until recently. I think that the giving the pair of Toms to someone who cannot afford shoes helps Toms appeal so much.

yup in cali we are a bit more laid back and sparkly toms are a way to make a casual outfit a bit more jazzed up for sure
ReplyDeleteI always find it interesting how where we live affects our style! I'd love to have a casual, beachy wardwobe if it meant me living by the beach though! I have to admit... I just can't get on the Tom's bandwagon - but I do like things that are sparkly :)

I know how you feel! Especially since I used to live in Vegas and then moved to Cali.. and now live in Texas! I also had to click the link and read more about this scarf shirt.. I LOL'd. But I love the glitter Toms, even though I swore I would never wear them either.
